West Coast Beaches

A stunning stretch of sand framed by high black schist cliffs, Castelejo offers powerful waves and a striking, almost lunar landscape. Ideal for surfers and those seeking a dramatic, less crowded setting. At high tide, the beach almost vanishes, but the wild energy remains.

Distance: 15 minutes by car
Directions: From Vila do Bispo, follow signs towards the "beaches". Carry on along the tarmac road for about 4km, following the sign to this beach until the end of the road
Facilities: Restaurant serving grilled fresh fish and regional dishes and a surfing school. 

Wide and secluded, Cordoama is known for its reliable surf, bodyboard, scenic cliffs, and peaceful atmosphere. It’s easy to lose track of time here, watching waves roll in or walking along the expansive shore. Don’t miss the panoramic viewpoint above, a favorite spot for sunset.

Distance: 20 minutes by car
Directions: From Vila do Bispo, follow signs towards the "beaches". Carry on along the tarmac road for about 4km until you reach the turning for Castelejo beach. Turn right and follow the dirt track for 2km to the beach
Facilities: Beach restaurants where you can enjoy a meal overlooking the sea

One of the region’s hidden treasures. Remote and untamed, Ponta Ruiva is reached via unmarked dirt roads and is best accessed with a 4x4. The beach’s legendary left-handers attract dedicated surfers, while its wild setting promises a deep connection with nature.

Distance: 20 minutes by car
Directions: From Sagres town centre, go in the direction of Cape St. Vicente, following the EN 268; passing Beliche beach take the first dirt track on the right; travel northwest along the dirt track for around 4km
