Sagres Beaches

By car: Leaving the town of Sagres follow the road with signs to the resort of Martinhal, leading to the beach around 2km away.

Facing south and protected from strong winds, Mareta is Sagres’ most accessible and family-friendly beach. Tranquil bathing in calm waters, renting a Kayak, fresh fish lunches, the evening light, the calm waters of this splendid bay.
A perfect place to unwind without leaving town.

Just west of the Fortress, Tonel is an iconic surf beach with powerful waves, consistent beach breaks, and a stunning backdrop of Saint Vincent’s Cape. Ideal for intermediate to advanced surfers, it’s also a favorite for sunsets and beach walks. A true Sagres classic. 

Distance: 2 minutes by car
Directions: From Sagres town centre, go in the direction of the fortress for 500m. You will see a sign to Tonel Beach on the right;

Tucked between high cliffs, this small cove offers shelter and striking views. With clean waves and dramatic scenery, Beliche is a winter surfer’s dream and a peaceful summer spot when the tides are right. The stairs down are steep, but the beauty that awaits is worth every step.

Distance: 5 minutes by car
Directions: From Sagres town centre, go in the direction of Cape St. Vicente, following the EN 268 for around 3km.
